Field trip: Kuku Yalanji Cultural Habitat Tour |
Here’s some basic information about the conference locale, Cairns.
Cairns is ideally situated in close proximity to the Great Barrier Reef. There will be a full day, all-inclusive day trip where we’ll take a boat to the outer reef, and explore with a respected tour company. If you are a certified diver, 2 dives are included and if you’re a novice and would like to learn then that’s available too at no additional cost. Snorkelling is also an option with rest-stops available or if you’d rather stay dry there’s a glass-bottom boat and semi-submersible so you don’t miss out on the sites. The costs for the day, including lunch and all-day tea, coffee and water, will be approximately AU$180.
For those who want to see kangaroos, koalas and other iconic Australian animals up-close, we’ll have a half-day trip to the Cairns Tropical Zoo. Check out more about the zoo here.
This full-day fieldtrip will include a number of stop-offs around the Port Douglas area, but the centrepiece will be a guided coastal walk with one of the Kubirri Warra brothers exploring Aboriginal Australian knowledge and understanding of coastal resources. Including the beach, mangroves and coastal reef we’ll see the tropical coast and its resources from a new perspective. For more information on the Kuku Yalanji Cultural Habitat Tour see here.
